Jack Reed


Introduction: Jack Reed is the senator from Democratic Party.He is an American politician from Rhode Island elected to the US Senate in 1997. He has been focusing on housing, children’s welfare and mental health issues.

 

Birth and family status of Jack Reed: Reed was born on November 12, 1949, in Cranston. His father was a World War II veteran who later became custodial supervisor of Cranston’s school system. Though she did not attend college, his mother made sure all of her kids went to college. Reed is married to Julia Hart Reed and has a daughter, Emily.

 

School and college life of Jack Reed: Jack attended St Matthew’s Elementary School in Cranston and then graduated from La Selle Academy in Providence. In 1967, Reed started cadet training in West Point Military Academy. Furthermore, he earned a Master’s Degree in public policy from Harvard University. Reed also received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1982.

 

Work experience of Jack Reed: After his graduation, Jack joined active duty military service and then served as a paratrooper in the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Company Commander and Battalion Staff officer.  He also taught at West Point as an associate professor for a while. Having received his law degree, Jack became an associate with the law firm of Sutherland, Asbill, and Brennan. He then moved back to Providence and joined another law firm where he specialized in banking and securities law.

 

Political career of Jack Reed: In 1984, Reed was elected to the office of state senator, where he served three terms. With 59% of the vote in the election, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1990. Reed succeeded Claiborne Pell as US Senator from Rhode Island in 1996.

 

Achievement of Jack Reed:  Reed has written laws to improve child health care which addresses major issues related to childhood diseases and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, Reed has also led efforts to strengthen Rhode Island’s transportation network and improve the quality of clean water projects. Furthermore, he also formulated laws to create affordable rental housing trust fund and improve consumer disclosures on mortgages while also providing warning and awareness regarding unfair financial products.
