Nebraska Senator Ben Sesse was elected to the Senate in 2015.  He is a chief advisor of health policy issues ranging from affordable healthcare access to food safety and security.

 

Birth and family status of Benjamin Sesse: Sesse was born in February 22, 1971 in Plainview, Nebraska.  He and his wife, Melissa, live in Fremont, Nebraska with 3 children.

 

School and college life of Benjamin E. Sesse: Sesse graduated a valedictorian from Fremont High School after which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University. He also did a study-abroad at University of Oxford. Moreover, Ben graduated with a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from St. John’s College and a Master of Philosophy and PhD in Philosophy from Yale University.

 

Work experience of Ben Sesse: Ben began his career as an associate consultant at a management consulting firm. He then served as consultant/executive director for the Christians United for Reformation (CURE). Later in 2004, Sasse served as chief of staff for the US Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy in Washington D.C. He also began working as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He then went on to advise the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Department of Health and Human Services. Sasse was later appointed the president of Midland University.

 

Political career of Ben Sesse:  Sesse declared his intention to run for the US Senate while at Midland University. He won and took the office in 2015.

 

Achievements of Ben Sesse: While at Midland, Ben elevated the financial situation and academics of the university by instituting new policies that include spot quizzes, class attendance and prodigious fundraising. He was also the only senator to vote against the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act which addresses the abuse of heroin and opioid drugs by providing funds to the states for treatment and prevention programs and by making the anti-overdose drug Naloxonemore widely available to first responders and law enforcement agencies.

Committees Ben Sesse is assigned to:  Sesse currently sits the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Joint Economic Committee and the Special Committee on Aging.
