Atima Omara:  She is an award-winning leader in politics and the progressive movement. She has traveled across the US and to Canada to speak on American democracy and has made appearances on CNN, CSPAN, PBS, BBC America, and Fox News to offer political commentary. Not only has Atima been quoted in the Washington Post, American Prospect and other state and local news outlets but she has written extensively on politics and various progressive topics that have been featured in the American Prospect, Huffington Post, The Root, The Hill, Talking Points Memo, Ebony Magazine, Virginian-Pilot, Ms. Magazine, Women’s Enews, the Shriver Report, RH Reality Check, and many blogs.Atima is an active member of local, state, and national women’s political organizations. She serves on the board of directors of the Planned Parenthood Metro Washington Action Fund; the board of directors of Emerge Virginia, which identifies, trains and encourages Democratic women to run for office, get elected and to seek higher office and is a co-founder and board member of Women Leaders of Virginia, a PAC that aims to endorse and help elect pro-choice Democratic female candidates to office in Virginia. Atima previously served on the board of directors of the DC Abortion Fund and LGBT Virginia Democrats PAC. She has also served in the leadership of the National Organization for Women, the DC’s Women’s Information Network, a professional pro-choice Democratic network for women, and as an appointee to the Arlington County Commission on the Status of Women.For her work, Atima has received frequent recognition including being listed as one of Ebony Magazine’s 2013 “Power 100”, and Jet Magazine’s 2013 “40 under 40”. Atima was also featured in Essence Magazine in their November 2013 list of “Ten Things We’re Talking About”. She was awarded the Young Women of Achievement Award in Leadership from the DC’s Women’s Information Network and the Arlington Commission on the Status of Women’s “Women of Vision Award in Government”.
